To be dedicated to helping individuals with mental and physical disabilities and their families by offering high quality services with Guidance, Support and Involvement by providing resources to promote their integration into the community through counseling, activities, work preparation services, job placement opportunities and life enrichment.
Company Profile
Gaston Skills, Inc is a private non-profit organization established in 1964 to serve adults who are mentally challenged in Gaston, Lincoln and the eastern portion of Cleveland Counties. Through the years Gaston Skills, Inc. has expanded and developed new programs to provide services to adults with emotional, mental and physical disabilities. Originally located in Dallas NC Gaston Skills, Inc has relocated its base of operations to Gastonia, NC and acquired Salem Industries located in Lincoln County.
Services / Programs
Adult Developmental Vocational Program (ADVP)
Provides services for individuals with developmental disabilities using real work as a primary job training tool; emphasis is placed on development of socialization and independent living skills.
Adult Developmental Vocational Program
Behavioral Health
Provides psychotherapy services through counseling to help individuals deal with stress, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems.
Community Alternative Program (CAP)
Provides Medicaid funded one-on-one/group services to persons with developmental disabilities.
Developmental Therapy
Provides individually designed instructions, training or functional developmental intervention activities.
Life Enrichment
Provides activities for senior adults with developmental disabilities.
Vocational Evaluation
Provides testing and assessment of an individual's vocational potential and a written program for rehabilitation or habilitation.
Vocational Work Adjustment
Provides a real work setting requiring either vocational training or adjustment to prepare for employment in a competitive labor market.
Supported Employment
Provides one-on-one training to individuals who are employed within the community; provides follow along services to individuals and employers with monthly visits to ensure maintaining employment.
Production
The production departments provide quality work for local industries at our facilities or at the customer's location. For adults with disabilities this production work environment presents the opportunity to earn income while supplying competitively priced outsourced labor to local industries.
For consumers services provided are: Assembly, Packaging, Collating, shipping, re-Work, Bar Coding, sorting Heat sealing, Shrink Wrapping and Quality inspection. Other services that are available are Warehousing, pickup and delivery.
